BETA Habitat 2D is in beta. It is free for everybody while it is, and it may not always be free.

GETTING STARTED

Your first ten minutes

You do not need to learn everything before you enter. This short route gives you a body, a name and a reason to start exploring.

Seven steps

questions first? →
01

Verify your account

Create an account and follow the verification link sent to your email address. Once verified, you can sign in and enter the world.

02

Find your body

You arrive as a ghost — present, invisible, and unable to touch anything. Find the body changer to choose a body and a head, then experiment with colours until the character feels like yours.

03

Claim your name

Everyone starts under a minted name like avatar41. Sign the register to claim the name other residents will see. Choose something you will be happy to answer to.

04

Learn your hand and pocket

Pick up an object to hold it. From your hand you can use, give, wear, store or place it, depending on what kind of object it is.

05

Walk the world

Use the exits between rooms, visit the shops and notice what changes when other people arrive. There is no correct route.

06

Check your tokens

Your account begins with a welcome grant of a thousand tokens, and earns a hundred more for every whole hour you spend in the world. Use a cash machine to manage your balance, and the shops to see what it buys.

07

Say hello

Talk in the room, use a mood or a gesture, or add somebody to your friends list. The world becomes easier to understand as soon as another resident shows you something.

A few useful terms

Six words the world uses that a new arrival will not have met before.

More on each: avatars and names, turfs and rent, tokens and objects.

the vocabulary
Resident A registered person in Habitat 2D.
Turf A private home or apartment rented inside the world.
Tokens The in-world currency, used for rent, shops and games.
ESP A private message sent to another resident, wherever they are.
Vendo A machine that sells items.
Ghost Your presence before you take on a visible body.

That is the whole route. The rest is people.
