BETA Habitat 2D is in beta. It is free for everybody while it is, and it may not always be free.

AVATARS / IDENTITY

Do not make a profile. Become a character.

In Habitat 2D, your avatar stands inside the conversation. The way you look, move, gesture and carry yourself becomes part of how people know you.

01

Build a look that belongs to you

Choose from different bodies, collect swappable heads and recolour individual regions while keeping the original pixel shading intact. Change skin, hair and clothing colours, then keep evolving your appearance as you discover new items.

A spray can holds charges and paints one region at a time. A hat is masked so it sits over your hair, not through it.

Six pixel avatars side by side with different bodies, skin tones, clothing colours and heads — a cowboy hat, a crown, a chef’s hat, a wizard hat, a horned helmet and a top hat Bodies, heads, colours
02

Your name is part of the world

everyone starts as avatar41

New arrivals begin anonymously, under a minted name nobody chose. Sign the register when you are ready to claim a proper one. From then on, the people you meet can recognise you when you return.

03

More than standing still

walk, turn, sit, gesture

Walk, turn, sit, change your mood and use gestures while you talk. What everyone says appears in the log above the scene, coloured by kind — blue for speech, white for somebody arriving, green for information, red for trouble — so a busy room stays readable.

The result is a form of avatar chat that is expressive and unmistakably social without needing voice, video or a headset. Nobody floats a speech bubble over their own face; who said a thing is in the log, and who somebody is comes from clicking them.

04

Dress through objects

hand, pocket, chest

Things in Habitat 2D have a physical life. Hold them, wear them, keep them in your pocket, place them in a chest or give them to somebody else. Your style is not a settings screen; it is assembled from objects that exist in the same world as you.

Where the objects come from: the shops and the world itself.
